BELVILLE Community Gardens has been flooded with donations as they prevent people going hungry during the coronavirus outbreak.

Manager Laura Reilly and her team of volunteers have been overwhelmed by the local support.

Recently they joined forces with Children in Poverty Inverclyde to send out ready meals to families most in need.

Laura Reilly said: "The local community has been so generous and we have so much support.

"We would like to thank everyone for their help.

"We were delighted with the donation from Pat at Children in Poverty Inverclyde."

Every day Belville received donations from local residents who have organised collections.

They also receive offers of help from local organisations, firms and workers who are all keen to lend their support.

Belville has also been backed by fundraising with people raising thousands of pounds.

Children in Poverty Inverclyde recently supplied dozens of ready meals from Wiltshire Foods, as well as boxes of fruit.

In one day alone Belville received cakes and cards from Cilla's Cakey Comforts in Port Glasgow, as well as anonymous sweet donation.

There was also donations of paper bags and hair nets, a vegetable box.

They have also had fridge freezers donated and were supported with transport by the local Scottish Gas team.

On top of this there was a collection from neighbours in Stroma Avenue in Port Glasgow.
