A RESTAURANT boss came up with a recipe for success as he looked to banish boredom during lockdown.

Alan Holliday, assistant manager at YO! Sushi in Silverburn, donned his dancing shoes for a fun video clip to a Wham soundtrack along with his daughter Nina.

The 47-year-old filmed the clip to post on his work Whatspp group chat but also posted it on Facebook where it was a smash hit.

Alan, of McCallum Crescent in Gourock, said: "It started as a bit of fun for our group chat at work.

"It was meant to be a TikTok clip but that didn't really suit my personality!

"Nina has done this clip a couple of times and my wife Annette thought she was really good - but she said it was clear that I couldn't dance!"

Like many families have found, Alan says the lockdown has been a challenge at times, especially for kids who can't see their friends or extended family.

He told the Tele: "I've been furloughed since March and you think at the start of it that it would be great to have a couple of months off work but it can get so boring.

"I have been trying to find something different to do every day with Nina."

Nina, 10, is a pupil at Gourock Primary and Alan and Annette also have a 21-year-old daughter, Kate, who has just completed a politics degree at Edinburgh University.

Annette, 45, is a team leader for health visitors, so is busy working from home.

Alan said: "As well as home schooling, I've been trying to teach Nina all the household tasks like vacuuming, cooking, making soup and she's baked muffin and cupcakes.

"It's about getting the balance between home schooling, keeping them occupied and learning something new."

Alan says that although things have been difficult, families will look back at this time remembering all the time they were able to spend with their children.

He said: "There will be a lot of families who will look back on 2020 and think 'did that really happen?'.

"It has been unusual but none of us will have three months uninterrupted with our kids again."
