A PORT man has been charged with an alleged ten-month campaign of abuse and intimidation against a woman.

James McEwan — indicted on a catalogue of serious accusations — is remanded in custody on the matter.

Prosecutors say that he engaged in a course of criminal behaviour against his partner, or ex-partner, between April 1 2019 and February 6 this year.

It is alleged that McEwan, 32, made repeated threats of violence against the woman and her acquaintances.

The Crown claims that on one occasion he left her house armed with a knife which caused her to believe he intended to harm her former partner.

Following a court appearance earlier this week to maintain a plea of not guilty, McEwan is set to return to the dock on the matters next week.

Further allegations against him include claims that he deprived the woman of her money, house keys and mobile phone and 'repeatedly accessed' the device.

He is said to have attempted to force the woman not to undertake a medical procedure and threatened to tell other people medical information relating to her.

McEwan is also accused of repeatedly contacting and attempting to contact her via text messages and phone calls.

Prosecutors say he repeatedly sent letters to her which contained threats of violence.

The alleged offences are said to have been committed at Greenock Prison, the town's Branchton area and elsewhere.

McEwan pleaded not guilty through lawyer Derek Buchanan at the latest calling of the case at Paisley Sheriff Court.

A joint motion from the defence and Crown for the preliminary First Diet stage in the proceedings to be continued until next Tuesday was granted by Sheriff James Spy.

Sheriff Spy further remanded McEwan in custody until then.
