A 'LIFE in lockdown' collection is set to be put together at the McLean Museum.

The Great Place Scheme is looking for local people to share their stories and experiences during these extraordinary time in our history.

Heritage outreach worker Grace McKelvie is inviting people to get involved and create a snapshot of history in Inverclyde.

It is hoped it will lead to an exhibition or a online collection which can be preserved for posterity.

Grace said: "These stories will form an important archive and help us understand how people and communities have responded to the current pandemic.

"It'll all enter the Lockdown Life collection and be archived at the Watt Institution for the long term, but in terms of short or medium-term use we're going to see how people want us to use it."

People will be invited to share their experiences through letters and diaries, scrapbooks, videos, interviews, photographs, pictures, newspaper clippings and so on.

The curators want to know about residents' experiences during the pandemic and subsequent shutdown.

They are asking individuals to think about what has been important to them during this time, whether it is a piece of music, a quote, book or person who helped them get through it.

Organisers are also interested in hearing from key workers and volunteers covering areas such as the NHS, food delivery, waste disposal, emergency services, caring or retail.

They can gather any special items such as clothing or kit that would help tell the community's coronavirus story.

The public can send photographs or videos about life during the pandemic, showing social distancing in queues, screens at shop tills, empty streets, closed businesses, signs about closures, social distancing.

There is also room for pictures of all the messages on pavements, rainbows in windows, of newborn babies and home schooling.

Businesses and creative organisations are also being asked to play their part by chronicling what they have been doing during the lockdown.

Anyone who would like to participate can get in contact by emailing grace.mckelvie@inverclyde.gov.uk or phoning 715638.
