SURVEYS conducted along the banks of the River Clyde by Keep Scotland Beautiful have found a staggering amount of litter in and around the water.
The report, published on World Oceans Day, found that 80 per cent of marine litter starts life on land.
Surveys were conducted along the banks of the Clyde and the 38 rivers and streams that run in to it by volunteer groups.
The most common items found were plastic snack wrappers, cigarette litter, fly-tipped items, dog fouling and sewage-related debris such as wet wipes.
These findings follow the shocking recent mess left at a number of local beauty spots, such as Inverkip beach and Lunderston Bay, following a slight easing of lockdown measures.
