A SENIOR councillor has welcomed the easing of restrictions under phase two of the lockdown-lifting plan.

Chris McEleny believes the Scottish Government have 'struck the right balance' between proceeding with caution and allowing life to start to return more to normal.

He said: "Moving into phase two has only been possible because we are all playing a part in tackling the coronavirus.

"The more we stick to physical distancing measures the more we will continue to suppress this virus.

"I would ask people in Inverclyde to please continue to stay two metres away from people in other households.

"With the exception of those who can form extended household groups, only meet with other households outdoors.

"Wear face coverings in enclosed spaces and wash your hands frequently and thoroughly.

"If you have symptoms of COVID-19, get a test and self-isolate immediately."
