THE number of people in Inverclyde claiming benefit for being out of work has increased by more than 60 per cent during lockdown.
Figures released by Wagestream reveal that 291 people in Inverclyde claimed jobseekers allowance in May.
This is an increase of 65.3 per cent on the number claiming the benefit in February.
The number of people claiming the benefit in May this year is almost 50 per cent more than in May 2019.
