DRIVERS are facing disruption in Greenock town centre due to main road lane closures.

Scotland TranServ are replacing the traffic lights on the A78 at Inverkip Road, beside the Green Oak Pub.

Bosses say the lights are 'reaching the end of their maintainable life' and a full replacement is essential.

This will include new signal poles, controllers and associated underground ducting and cabling.

Daytime lane closures are now in place until Friday July 10 and drivers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys.

The works will follow strict physical distancing protocols in line with the Scottish Government’s COVID-19 guidance.

Aled Davies, Scotland TranServ’s principal lighting engineer, said: “This is an important section of the trunk road network, and as such is used by emergency services, freight, retail and delivery traffic as part of their essential working.

"It is vital that we deliver this essential programme in order to maintain road safety.

"Traffic volumes currently remain low, in line with government advice, and the work can therefore be carried out safely and with minimal disruption."
