BIG-HEARTED Greenock brothers prompted their neighbours to donate more than 20 bags of shopping to Inverclyde Foodbank.

During lockdown, Finlay and Murray McKeegan had been joining their neighbours in Peile Street and Fox Street clapping for frontline workers every Thursday evening.

On the last night of the clapping, residents decided to have one more week of showing support - by collecting donations for people in need.

In the run-up to the event, Finlay, 11, and Murray, seven, put notes through everyone's doors, letting them know about the collection.

On the evening the thoughtful duo visited all of the residents to pick up the bags and gather them all together.

Generous donations from people in the Peile and Fox Street community filled no fewer than 24 shopping bags with vital provisions.

One of the residents, who didn't want to be named, told the Tele: "The boys have been our little heroes.

"We all decided on the collection together but the boys were the ones who did all the work.

"They're the only two youngsters around here and they're a great addition.

"We got a very positive response from everyone.

"Everyone really pulled together and showed great community spirit following on from a plea to help others.

"The team at the foodbank were absolutely delighted when we delivered the supplies."
