A KIND DJ is music to the ears of a local charity after holding a fundraising street party in memory of a ten-year-old boy.

Port Glasgow man Brendan Oswald got his decks out and took requests for a special socially-distanced disco with his neighbours in aid of Jayden's Rainbow.

The charity was set up by mum Kathleen Orr in her son's name following his tragic sudden death.

The young ice-skating star collapsed and died while training on a rink nearly three years ago.

Brendan, who is the Donnachies Bar resident DJ, currently works part-time with a transport charity supporting kidney dialysis patients and says he was keen to support another good cause close to home.

Brendan, 59, of Skye Road, said: "I normally DJ in Donnachies and we had chosen to support Jayden's Rainbow this year.

"We had already held a fundraiser and I wanted to show my support during this time while the pub is closed, as Jayden's Rainbow is a great charity.

"The disco was a brilliant night and we all socially-distanced and had a great time."

Brendan has been driving for Glasgow Transport Services, ferrying hospital patients from Ayrshire and Argyll & Bute to Inverclyde Royal for dialysis during the coronvirus outbreak.

The DJ, whose partner Wendy White is a key worker a nurse in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, said: "I love being a DJ but obviously we are unable to work just now.

"It has been great to step in to help drive patients to hospital.

"I have got to know them all really well.

"I pick up from as far away as Tighnabruaich."

Thanks to the disco and a collection, the Skye Road residents raised £150 for Jayden's Rainbow, which works to install life-saving defibrillators across the district.

Jayden's mum Kathleen said: "It means such a lot that there are people thinking of us at a time of great need, when there is a lot happening with the coronavirus."
