TEA-rrific surprises have stirring emotions on the doorsteps of people all over Inverclyde thanks to the generosity of the team at Your Voice.

The organisation's community connectors have been out and about delivering ready-made afternoon tea packages to people all over the district.

Your Voice volunteers and staff have continued to telephone people involved in their social prescribing service throughout the coronavirus lockdown, but have missed the chance to see them in person.

So they decided to start delivering a bit of luxury, accompanied by a socially-distanced chat.

The packages include scones, clotted cream, jam, teabags, sugar and coffee - and it's being going down a treat so far.

Your Voice community connector Julie Gillan said: "It's been absolutely brilliant.

"Everyone we have delivered to has been really happy to see us and to get some face-to-face contact.

"People who attend our groups and hubs are not getting any of that interaction just now.

"We don't want to lose the good relationships that we've built up, so we make sure we stay for a wee chat."

The Your Voice team plans to deliver to around 50 people in total.

When dropping off the treats, community connectors wear personal protective equipment and observe social distancing guidelines at all times.

Julie hopes that the packages cheer people up and show that there's support out there.

She added: "It's a wee luxury.

"Everyone has been getting their isolation boxes but this is something over and above that.

"We're hopeful that as time goes on we'll be able to sit and have a cup of tea and a blether with everyone.

"It means a lot to people that we're thinking about them."

Helen Strachan and her husband Jim, who live in Sir Michael Street in Greenock, recently took delivery of an afternoon tea package from the team.

The couple use the Your Voice shopmobility service and also visit the Clyde Square centre regularly for a cup of tea and a chat.

Helen, 89, told the Tele: "It was such a surprise and a lovely thing for them to do.

"We've got great neighbours here and we're in a great close but we've not been out and about since March.

"It was so nice to see our visitors and to get such a nice wee treat from them."
