A GOUROCK dad who turned his life around by losing eight stones has been helping other people get into shape for coming out of lockdown.

Martyn Donnelly, who is currently on course to become a personal trainer, is inspiring his army of followers online with his work-outs.

The 36-year-old told the Tele that keeping in shape has helped him stay mentally and physically strong over the last three months.

He has been shielding with his family during the coronavirus outbreak and says exercise has helped them all.

Sharing his daily routine has also brought about benefits.

Martyn, of Iona Crescent, said: "It has been tough going through the lockdown.

"I've really missed the gym and the support we get there.

"It has definitely helped just getting back into a routine."

We previously featured Martyn and his wife Leanne, who lost a combined 14 stone between them thanks to the support of Gourock Gym.

During lockdown the couple shielded with son Mason, five, together with Leanne's mum Elsa, who is undergoing cancer treatment.

Martyn took unpaid leave of absence from Amazon in Faulds Park to keep them all safe - but is now going back to work.

He said: "It has been difficult at times, but the exercise has kept up strong."

Martyn had told the Tele previously how he was determined to lose weight for his son Mason.

After reaching that target, he decided to take it a step further.

He is now on his way to qualifying as a PT after passing his gym instructor course.

Martyn, who shares his daily workout routines with inspirational posts on Facebook and Instagram, added: "I would love to work for Inverclyde Leisure, to give back to others what they gave me.

"We couldn't have done it without them.

"I am looking forward to the gym opening back up when it is safe to do so."
