ST John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, Greenock, is opening its doors for private prayer on Wednesday.

The church 's cleaning team have been working hard behind the scenes to ensure the building is safe for people to visit.

Reverend Wilhelmina Nesbitt, rector of St John's, says that people will be made most welcome.

Reverend Nesbitt said: "The church will re-open not as yet for services or any other kind of gatherings but for people to come in for a while, find a peaceful space to pray or just to reflect for a few moments, in the middle of a busy day.

"It will be so good to make the building available again for the public to use, even if only for these few hours a week.

"Normally, at this time of year we would be opening to welcome tourists off the cruise ships; we're missing our visitors so much! "But this is something we can offer to anyone seeking that special place to be in God's presence.

"We do have to observe various regulations, of course, about social distancing, use of masks and hand sanitizer but we've tried to make it as accessible and simple as possible.

"A warm welcome awaits all."

The church will be open between 10am and 1pm.
