A CARING team at Branchton Community Centre put smiles on the faces of local youngsters by buying happy meals for them.

Staff and volunteers teamed up with McDonald's in Port Glasgow to deliver 110 surprise treats to the kids on their lunch delivery list.

Big-hearted fast food bosses gave the centre a discount, which meant they got toys for free.

Carol McEwan of the centre said: "One of our volunteers suggested that we give the kids a treat.

"We put an appeal for funds online and we raised £600.

"We made up goodie bags with a bottle of diluting juice, a colouring book and pencils, crafts, sweets and a kit to make their own empire biscuits.

"Our drivers were organised in teams and collected and delivered three batches of 40 and delivered them over a three hour period."

Carol says the kids were delighted with the special surprise.

She told the Tele: "The drivers said the weans were in their element.

"Some parents posted pictures on our Facebook page of the kids eating their McDonald's meals."

Carol and the team would like to thank Darren Paul and his manager Robert Rae for the discount and organising such a big order.

She said: "McDonald's were brilliant and they had everything ready for us.

"A lot of these families are self-isolating and wouldn't have been able to go down to McDonald's for a wee treat.

"I know there have been big queues and kids have been desperate to get a McDonald's now it's back open, so it was lovely we were able to do this thanks to the generosity of everyone who so kindly contributed."
