A LOCAL employment rights service says the poorest paid workers in Inverclyde are suffering most from the impact of the coronavirus lockdown.

Inverclyde Advice and Employment Rights Centre received many calls from people employed by small to medium sized businesses.

They helped individuals facing delays in payments from the government's job retention scheme.

A spokesman for the centre said: "As usual it is the low paid workers who are most affected.

"Typically this is a sector of the workforce, the working poor, that cannot sustain an interruption in earnings."
