DRIVERS in Inverclyde risk putting points on their licence by not giving cyclists enough room on the road.
Inverclyde Council is backing a new road safety campaign - Give Cycle Space - which raises awareness of the 1.5m gap that should exist between drivers and cyclists.
Motorists who flout the rules face a careless driving charge, three penalty points on their licence and a £100 fine - or a more serious criminal conviction.
Councillor Jim Clocherty said: "Keeping a distance from cyclists is crucial on our roads to ensure the safety of the rider and the driver."
