ALMOST 500 more deaths than births were registered in Inverclyde in 2019 according to figures released by National Records of Scotland.
Last year, a total of 615 newborns were registered in the area while 1,079 people died - in line with the national five year trend where more deaths than births were registered in Scotland.
In June of last year, the estimated Inverclyde population was 77,800 - a drop of 350 people since 2018.
There were also 168 marriages were registered in 2019.
