A CAMPAIGNING mum has spent lockdown supporting the community and hospital patients in their fight against coronavirus - in memory of her toddler.

Greenock's Kimberley Woodman set up a charity foundation following the death of her 20-month-old son Matthew two years ago.

After being forced to cancel a fundraising ball due to lockdown, the 29-year-old was determined to help good causes.

The Matthew Woodman Foundation has donated food to local families, helped new parents keep in touch with their premature babies and sent toiletries to Inverclyde Royal patients.

Kind-hearted Kim, who is set to train as a nurse, said: "We just want to make a difference and make Matthew proud.

"We want to help the NHS. "We donated an iPad to the children's hospital in Glasgow so that parents could see their premature babies.

"Things like this have made a real difference."

Kim, who lives with husband Billy, and son Harvey, aged six, set up the foundation to let Matthew's name live on through 'Ray of Light' boxes for premature tots.

They hope the foundation will become a source of support for other families who have lost children, or need support of any kind.

Matthew died suddenly on August 27 in 2018 from an undetected heart defect, coarctation of the aorta.

He was on holiday in Stornoway with his mum visiting family when he was rushed to hospital.

Since then Kim has devoted herself to raising money for good causes.

As well as donating the iPad to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children she sent hundreds of toiletries to Inverclyde Royal as well as pamper bags for staff.

The foundation also stepped in to support the hospital in Stornoway which treated Matthew, purchasing a water cooler and a television stand to move around wards.

Kim and her volunteers also donated to the foodbank and delivered to local families in need.

She organised quizzes on Facebook as well as other events to raise money.

Kim hopes to be able to rearrange the charity ball once lockdown is lifted and she has plans to grow her foundation.

She told the Tele: "We just want to help other people as much as we can."
