Celtic Football Club is finally moving forward with plans to build a hotel and museum by Celtic Park after outline planning permission was granted nearly three years ago.

The club has yet to submit detailed plans for approval, but its outlined plans were approved by Glasgow City Council in 2017.

However, documents submitted this July reveals steps are being taken towards submitting finalised proposals.

The development would include a hotel between 175 and 200 bedrooms, a Celtic museum, shop and ticket office.

Documents submitted on July 6 of this year will attempt to resolve a planning condition provided by the council in 2017.

In order to protect existing shopping centres in the area, the council requested that the retail area is no larger than 1500 square metres overall and that no single retail unit exceeds 400 square metres.

However, planners have explained that the retail floorspaces cannot be separated from the other elements in the proposal and that it forms an integral part of the mixed-use development.

They add that the proposal is only asking for a single retail unit dedicated to selling club merchandise and are therefore asking for permission to exceed the 400 square metres restriction.

A letter reads: "The retail floorspace forms an integral part of the mixed use development – it cannot be separated from the other elements of the proposal, all of which are directly related to the purpose and operations of the football club."
