Bomb squads were called to a garden in Rutherglen on Saturday.
It is understood surrounding roads were closed to the public while the specialist units disposed of the device found in a property on Burnside Road.
Emergency services were at the scene from 3.45pm yesterday but the device was not active.
Roads were reopened around 6.30pm.

Inspector Scott Anderson said: “Police received a report of a possible ordnance found in the garden of a property on Burnside Road, Rutherglen around 3.45pm on Saturday, 18 July, 2020.
"Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) attended and disposed of the device, stating it was not live. The roads between Upper Bourtree Drive and the Cathkin bypass reopened around 6.30pm.”
