HE had a sneaking suspicion that it was going to be a big day... but Michael Hamilton couldn't have imagined just how big.

The 26-year-old was feeling lucky so decided to enter Clyde 1's Cash Register competition for the very first time.

And his punt paid off with a massive £60,000 win.

Michael, a fundraiser, and his new fiancée of only three weeks, Leigh Sloan, were on their way to the dump when they took the call from Clyde 1 DJ Grant Thomson.

He said: “We woke up on Thursday and I just knew that it was going to be our day. One of my friends enters daily, so he just thought I was pulling his leg when I told him.

“It’s like it was meant to be. We even pulled in so we could take the call if it happened to come through, and we still can’t believe it did.

“We’ve had a big couple of months as we begin to plan the wedding and make improvements to our new home, so it couldn’t have been better timing.

"Before this, we were deciding whether to save for the honeymoon or get a staycation once lockdown was lifted, but now we can have both.

"We had originally thought about York for a break, but I think Greece is back on the cards.”

Glasgow Times:

The win couldn't come at a better time as Leigh, 25, and Michael plan their wedding - plus they're just bought a house together.

Leigh’s family and Michael’s friends enter the competition every day, so many were reluctant to believe he had been so lucky on his first ever try.

Michael, who proposed to Leigh only three weeks ago, just a couple of months after moving to their new home, was blown away by the good timing of it all.

Michael is also looking forward to treating his large family, especially his younger brother Joe, 12.

He said: “It’s going to feel really good being able to spoil my family a little bit.

"Joe loves trainers and the PlayStation, so I think he probably already knows what he’ll be buying.

“Leigh’s mum plays every day too and when we decided to enter we called her to make sure we had the same number, so we will be sure to thank her with a share of the cash.”

Presenter Grant said: “They say that moving house and planning a wedding are two of the most stressful things a couple can do together, so looks like this win couldn’t have come at a better time for Michael and Leigh.

“The fact that Michael has never played before makes their win even more exciting and just shows you, you’ve got to be in it to win it.”

Michael was lucky enough to win on the final week of Cash Register which ended on Friday, July 17.

However, there are more chances to win big cash amounts with Clyde 1’s brand new competition Summer Cash Drop, which started on July 21.
