FOUR Gourock neighbours have been arrested following a violent disturbance in the same common close of a block of flats where a fire was started hours earlier.

Police rushed to the scene on St John's Road at around 9pm on Wednesday night to find two men injured — a 51-year-old with a fractured eye socket and a 43-year-old with a cut head.

Both were arrested, along with another man aged 36 and a 39-year-old woman.

Two police vans and a car remained on the street for around an hour and paramedics arrived to treat the injured men.

The Telegraph told yesterday how detectives were investigating two small fires which were set within the close at 2am on Wednesday morning.

A resident was alerted to noises in the communal area, immediately smelled smoke and a lit doormat and bike saddle were discovered a short time later.

A forensic investigation was launched to find the perpetrator and detectives also carried out door-to-door enquiries.

The four arrested over the disturbance have been held in custody, with reports sent to the procurator fiscal.
