A SUSPECTED drink-driver has been arrested and charged after crashing a BMW car into a van in Gourock early yesterday morning.

The incident led to the closure by police of the town's Broomberry Drive while enquiries were carried out.

It is understood that the BMW collided with a Ford Tourneo vehicle at around 7.30am.

The BMW's airbag deployed during the collision and the road had to be closed by police until the vehicle could be recovered.

Sergeant Jason Logsdon, of Greenock police, said: "A 33-year-old male has been arrested for allegedly failing to provide a roadside breath test."
