THIS tough trio of fitness fanatics are set to climb UK's highest mountain AND cycle 350 kilometres to raise funds for charity - all within 24 hours.

Andy Armour, who runs Urban Fit Company, is ready to complete the challenge alongside 22-year-olds Callen McAulay and Thomas Augaitis in aid of the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH).

They will be cycling 175km from Glasgow to Fort William, climbing Ben Nevis and then cycling back to Glasgow all within a day.

Andy told the Tele: "I am Callen's strength and conditioning coach as he is a professional boxer.

"He broke his hand, so he's been doing different things to keep motivated and busy.

"Both Callen and Thomas have been doing a lot of cycling during lockdown, so they decided to do this challenge and asked me if I wanted to get onboard.

"We've decided to attempt it as we only know of one other professional cyclist who tried to take it on.

"He was unable to complete it due to something going wrong with his bike."

The guys say they are not daunted by the scale of the task ahead of them.

Andy said: "I wouldn't say I'm nervous about the challenge itself, I'm more worried about trying to complete the whole thing in 24 hours."

They will have a friend following them in a support vehicle the whole way who will be on hand to help with any punctured tyres and also assist with equipment.

Each cycle will take about eight hours while the climb itself should take around six, making for a very gruelling test.

Andy said: "I'm not really an endurance athlete as such, I'm more into weight training and cross-fit exercises, so this is totally out of my comfort zone.

"But I'm actually really looking forward to the challenge."

The men chose to collect sponsorship for SAMH as they know there has been an increase in mental health problems during lockdown.

They hope to raise vital funds and awareness of the charity.

Andy, 41, has already raised cash to purchase thousands of bottles of water for frontline staff through sponsored lockdown workouts on Zoom.

The trio are tackle their challenge on Saturday and are hoping to raise £2,000.

Andy added: "I think the hardest part will be coming down off the climb and then having to cycle back to Glasgow, but we're training hard for it and I'm sure we'll enjoy the day."
