A MAN has been arrested after a woman was allegedly raped in a lane near a cafe in Clydebank.

The incident involving the 23-year-old happened between 1.15am and 1.45am on Saturday, just off Alexander Street in Clydebank.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident but officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses.

A couple dressed in black - one of them a woman with blonde hair - were seen in the area at the time.

Detective Inspector Scott Hamilton said: “Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what happened but we believe this was an isolated incident.

“We are eager to trace a couple who were seen in the area at the time. They were both dressed in black and the woman had blonde hair.

“We believe they may have vital information that will help with our investigation.

“Anyone else who can help with our enquiries is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 2496 of Sunday, 2 August, or make a call anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
