AN EMERGENCY alert was sparked this afternoon amid fears someone was in difficulty in the River Clyde.
Amid appalling weather conditions, the Coastguard received reports that 'an unusual object' had been spotted in the water, just off the Gourock Pool area.
Several coastguard vehicles rushed to the scene just before 3pm.
They remained on the scene for over an hour to carry out a search along the shore, with a lifeboat also drafted in.
The Coastguard has confirmed that the incident was a false alarm and crews have now been stood down.
