A NEW restaurant in Greenock town centre has closed after learning of a coronavirus case linked to the premises.

Management at Eighteen by Oaka on Westburn Street announced yesterday that they had taken the move as a precautionary measure.

They have ordered a full deep clean of the Asian restaurant, which was formerly the home of Jade Palace.

In a statement, they said: "We want to let you know that we have had a Covid-19 case linked to our restaurant.

"We have not been advised to close, however we closed the restaurant when the news reached us on Thursday morning.

"We felt this was the most responsible thing to do for the safety of our team and customers.

"This will give us the time to deep clean all areas of the restaurant and make sure all members of our team carry out the required tests before allowing customers back in to the restaurant."

The owners have thanked members of the community for their support and urged them to 'stay safe'.

They added: "Thank-you for all the support everyone is showing us.

"We really need to 'stick together' if we want to fight this thing."
