DETECTIVES are hunting an armed thief who stole a till drawer containing cash from a Greenock convenience store.

The man entered the Usave store in Roxburgh Street late on Thursday and approached the till when staff were in another area of the shop.

The thug warned staff not to approach him and brandished a blade .

He fled and turned onto Trafalgar Street before going into Shaw Place and disappearing.

No staff were injured in the incident.

The man is described as being white with tanned skin, in his late 40s or early 50s and around 5ft 9 tall.

He was wearing a dark snood, a cream or beige jacket and grey or cream trousers.

Police have obtained CCTV footage of the incident and are now appealing for witnesses.

The incident follows an attack on the same store in February when a man armed with a push dagger grabbed £80 from the till.

Shopkeeper Abdul Ghanai wrestled with thief James Houston behind the counter of the shop and unmasked him so that his face could be seen on CCTV.

Anyone with information about the latest raid on the shop is asked to call Greenock CID on 101.
