SNP councillors are protesting against the reintroduction of benefit sanctions.
They put forward a motion at a Municipal Buildings meeting asking colleagues to agree to write to the UK Government calling on them to think again about the move.
Speaking following the meeting, SNP group leader Councillor Elizabeth Robertson said: "At a very difficult time during a world wide pandemic we expressed our grave concerns about the DWP's decision on behalf of the UK Government to reintroduce benefit sanctions.
"At a time when many people have already lost or could lose jobs, to then threaten people with draconian sanctions during the pandemic is an unjust and cold hearted thing to do.
"It was right and good that sanctions had been suspended.
"I proposed that the council leader should write to the relevant minister with our concerns and I am glad that he and the committee agreed to do this."
