A LOUT who was barred by a sheriff from going near his mother breached the court order and placed her in a state of fear and alarm in her own home.

Taylor Johnston, 21, downed booze and hurled foul-mouthed verbal abuse at his mum after she allowed him in when he claimed that he had nowhere to stay.

Greenock Sheriff Court heard how Johnston accused the woman of 'ruining his life' during a late-night rant.

His outburst sparked a 999 emergency call to the police and landed him in the dock at Greenock Sheriff Court.

He was on a bail order from last December not to approach or contact his mother and sister when he committed the offence at an address on Bridgend Road during lockdown in April.

Prosecutor Lindy Scaife said: "His mother was awoken by a raised voice and went to the living room.

"The accused was verbally abusive to her, shouting, swearing and calling her a derogatory name."

Fiscal depute Ms Scaife added: "His mother attempted to contact the police and, in an effort to calm him down, showed him her phone screen so that he could see she'd called the emergency services.

"The accused disconnected the call and left.

"Police attended and did not trace him at that point."

Defence lawyer Aidan Gallagher said his client was remorseful over his conduct.

Mr Gallagher said: "He hopes that in due course he can properly apologise and is allowed back into the house."

Sheriff Joseph Hughes allowed Johnstone bail and deferred sentence until November 10 for him to be of good behaviour.
