COUNCIL bosses have confirmed positive Covid-19 cases at a Greenock school and its pre-five unit.

The positive tests were within Whinhill Primary and its nursery.

Education bosses say letters were sent out to parents and carers of pupils at the school and nursery to inform them of the situation.

The council says this procedure has been followed with all schools and nurseries where there are positive cases.

Following the return to school in August there were outbreaks at Aileymill and Lady Alice primaries which resulted in classes and staff being sent home to self-isolate.

A council spokesman said: "The council is continuing to issue letters to parents/carers of pupils at schools and/or nurseries where there has been a positive case to inform them and to offer advice and support.

"This happened with Whinhill Nursery and primary.

"Information is not shared with parents beyond the affected school."

The local authority confirmed details after a parent contacted the Telegraph claiming they had been left in the dark about the outbreak.

The concerned parent told us: "I am just wondering why there has been no coverage of the outbreak of Covid at Whinhill.

"There has been two separate cases of positive cases within 14 days."

The man, who did not wish to be named, said: "I am only raising this issue as I felt let down by nursery and education board for not notifying to ensure all parents are aware of the dangers."

Responding to the points raised by the parent, the council's spokesman said: "Parents who believe they have missed any correspondence should check directly with their child’s school and to ensure the school has their most up-to-date contact details."
