A popular Shawlands cafe has sadly announced it will be closing permanently as it cited a "lack" of support from the Scottish Government during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Lucky Sparrow Games Cafe opened on Pollokshaws Road two years ago and will now close its doors for a final time.

Announcing the news via Twitter, the South Side cafe wrote: "I'm afraid it's time for the announcement many of you will have been expecting - we will not be reopening the café.

"The lack of support from the government has made it impossible for us to continue trading. Thank you all so much for your support over the past two years."

The cafe thanked the "vibrant and diverse" community it attracted for supporting the business over the past two years.

It added: "We turned a profit for the first time in March 2020 - we were a viable business.

"See you all soon, love from the newly unemployed staff."

It comes as Firewater announced the future of the city centre nightclub is at "grave risk" due to the impacts of the 10pm curfew.
