Glaswegians have been vocal over plans to reduce bin collections across the city.

The new refuse service is set to be rolled out next month in the North East - which will see general waste collected every three weeks and glass every eight weeks.

In due course, the service changes will also be adopted in the South Side and West of Glasgow.

The changes have been put in place in a bid to drive recycling levels up in the city as official figures have revealed Glasgow trails its rivals across Scotland in how little it reuses.

Glaswegians have since dubbed the move as an "absolute joke" while warning the changes will spark a city-wide rat infestation.

Katie Mulligan said: "It’s disgusting we have a problem with rats just now so what will it be like with these changes?

"Some idiot sitting in an office thinks a good idea to save money by making changes to our rubbish collection.

"The place is bad enough with rubbish getting dumped just now so you can imagine what it’s going to be like now."

Kathleen Brown Rice said: "Shocking, the rats will be having parties and no social distances."

Fiona McCall added: "Absolutely a joke, you'll have bins stinking, maggots and flies. Two-weekly was long enough.

"If that's the case you should be providing a free service of bins washed and disinfected after bins are emptied..."

Maggieannie Garscadden added: "Aboustley shocking as I recycle but my bin still full n needs to be emptied every two weeks .. should have given us all an extra bin in this case."

Iris Archibald added: "Lovely... The city will be overrun with rats."

Some argued that council tax should be reduced in-line with the new changes.

"Council tax should reduce if services are", wrote Julie Jules.

Leslie Cordiner said: "People should stop paying their council tax as services keep being reduced council tax remains the same."

Graeme Blair said: "Reduce council tax."

Lorraine Cameron added: "Pay your council tax, you leave your bin out to be emptied and they don't empty it what the f*** is that all about?

"They're quick enough to hound you if you miss your council tax."
