A VETERAN Conservative councillor is calling for Greenock to be made a freeport to boost trade.
Freeports allow goods to be brought in without incurring import or customs duties and the UK Government is currently considering locations for them following Brexit.
Councillor David Wilson said: “There must be a focus on the economic recovery for the area which is sustainable and beneficial across Inverclyde.
“We have a fantastic coastline and the advancement of freeport status would build on that."
