INVERCLYDE'S MP is urging local employers to support a scheme to get young people into the workplace.
The UK Government Kickstart scheme offers young people claiming universal credit a six-month paid placement for 25 hours a week.
Ronnie Cowan has contacted a number of bigger employers in the area to highlight it and says he's had a good response.
Mr Cowan said: “I have been working with senior management at the jobcentre to see how we can ensure Inverclyde participates in the scheme and bring local jobs to the area for our young people.
"I’ve reached out to a number of large local employers to highlight the scheme and many have been enthusiastic.
“If any Inverclyde employer is interested to know more about Kickstart then I would encourage them to contact my office or the local Greenock jobcentre."
