TWO Port councillors have told of their delight at the successful reopening of the town's swimming pool.
Chris Curley and Jim MacLeod were relieved when £51,000 was found to bring the pool back to life early after plans to keep it closed until Easter sparked a furore.
Councillor MacLeod said: "I was so pleased when it was announced a few weeks ago that a number of facilities were reopening but utterly dismayed that the Port Baths was not one of them.
"My constituents were equally upset with many phoning, emailing or contacting me by social media.
"I raised my constituents complaints with Inverclyde Leisure, council officials and in committee and thankfully Inverclyde Leisure and the council listened and acted on Portonians' concerns."
Councillor Curley added: "When we consider the Gourock outdoor pool was granted £36,000 to stay open for six weeks I think £51,000 to open the Port Baths for six months is money well spent."
