ARDGOWAN Hospice are hoping to 'light up Inverclyde' this December to remember those who are no longer with us.

In lieu of the annual 'Light Up A Life' celebration which sees hundreds gather for a service at Westburn Church, the hospice are marking their annual remembrance celebration in a Covid-19 friendly way.

'Light Up Inverclyde' will take place on December 6, with hospice staff encouraging individuals across the area to to light a candle, or even simply switch on their mobile phone torch for a live online gathering.

They also hope businesses will light up their buildings too.

Hospice officials want everyone to join together to celebrate those who have passed away, but also honour the 'shining stars' in the community who have been keeping spirits high during the pandemic.

Ellen Bradley, ward manager at Ardgowan, said: "I want to extend a personal thanks to our community for the amazing support you've shown the hospice this year.

"In such a difficult time you have been our silver lining, a real light in a dark period.

"On December 6, we want you to join us as we pause to remember and reflect on the people who made our lives so special that aren't with us this Christmas.

"Not only will these lights represent how our loved ones lit up our lives, they'll also represent the good in our community - those who have been such a positive force in Inverclyde this year, supporting each other and Ardgowan Hospice no matter what."

The hospice are inviting everyone to participate in the virtual 'Light Up Inverclyde' livestream on Ardgowan's Facebook page.

Supporters can also sponsor a light on the hospice's Christmas tree and dedicate it to a loved one as normal via an online form or by filling in the usual paper copy.

The hospice ask that any local businesses planning to light up their buildings get in touch.

On the evening they hope social media will also become awash with lights across Inverclyde and hospice staff and volunteers are asking those getting involved to share their images.
