A PHOTOGRAPHER who lost his oil industry job has set up his own studio and now wants to end a tough year by capturing some Christmas spirit.

Phil Harvey is spreading festive cheer by offering free photo vouchers to create a festive season to remember for families who have been affected by the pandemic.

The former draughtsman says he knows how tough it's been for lots of families and he wants to put a smile back on people's faces during the festive season.

When Phil, 44, lost his job in the oil industry he decided to make his passion for photography his job by opening his new studio.

During the peak of the pandemic he stepped forward as a volunteer, helping to keep the community clean and tidy with organised litter picks during lockdown when recycling centres were closed.

Now he is focusing fully on his new business, but still wants to do his bit to give back.

Phil said: "People have had quite a hard time the last year.

"I want to give people who cannot afford to get a studio photograph taken the chance to get one of their kids.

"It's about creating memories.

"It's all about the kids - the weans love it."

Phil has set up his studio like a grotto and when the children come in they post a letter to Santa Claus.

They get their photo taken and all leave with a selection box.

Phil, who has been taking pictures for three years, says the operation is socially distanced with only one family a time and meets all the Covid-19 public health regulations.

The £40 voucher is available to families who are struggling financially due to Covid-19.

Their details will be added to a random generator and several vouchers will be handed out each week.

The voucher can be used until March to go towards another family photograph.
