FLOODING caused chaos in Cloch Road with drivers veering into the middle of the road and residents up in arms.

People living in The Gantocks luxury flats were complaining about the kerb being swamped and blocked drains.

While one driver said the conditions were 'dangerous' and that motorists were driving in the middle of the road to avoid where the flooding was deepest.

Water was also cascading down the hill from higher up where the Levan Burn next to Castle Levan was overflowing into junction of Dunvegan Avenue and Edinburgh Drive.

A spokesman for Inverclyde Council said: "There was a Met Office yellow ‘be aware’ warning in place for heavy and prolonged rain and we’ve already experienced extremely heavy rainfall in the last 24-48 hours.

"We are responding to numerous flooding incidents at various locations throughout Inverclyde including Cloch Road where water courses and gullies are blocked by leaves, branches and loose debris.

"We have teams attending the location to assess and assist in these difficult weather conditions."
