A GREENOCK teenager marked his 19th birthday by appearing in court charged with breaking in to his mother's home.

Connor Mahon is said to have stolen cash and cigarettes in the alleged raid on the property in Branchton.

He had previously been arrested regarding another criminal matter and was under police orders not to approach or contact his mother prior to a court appearance scheduled for December 8.

Greenock Sheriff Court was told that Mahon also has an adjourned High Court case which is due to call again next year.

Prosecutors say he carried out the alleged break-in and theft last Thursday.

Mahon, of the Inverclyde Centre, pleaded not guilty through lawyer Aidan Gallagher during a custody hearing on Monday afternoon.

Sheriff Andrew McIntyre allowed bail and imposed a 7pm to 6.30am night-time curfew.

The case is due call again on April 13 next year, ahead of a trial scheduled for May 19.
