WEST College Scotland in Greenock is set to lead the way in supporting students who have a caring role at home.

They are working towards Carers Federation accreditation.

Bosses will look at increasing retention and attendance rates and focus on achievement among young adult carers.

Assistant principal Iain Forester-Smith said: "Many students combine their college studies with caring.

"We are very aware that student carers can face additional challenges, balancing their caring responsibilities with the demands of their course.

"That is why we have embarked on this new journey with Learning & Work Institute and The Carers Federation to ensure West College Scotland is providing the best support we possibly can.”

The three year lottery-funded project will see the college introduce tailored support.
