HIGH flat residents are finally celebrating the removal of a works cabin from their car park after a wait of two years.

People who live in Eastern View in Gourock have been battling with River Clyde Homes for a prolonged period to remove containers which were using up valuable car parking spaces.

The cabin had been located in the car park since the block's new biomass heating system was installed in 2018.

Hamish MacLeod, secretary of Eastern View tenants' and residents' association, said: "I am over the moon.

"The community council and town councillor Lynne Quinn had emailed River Clyde Homes and the last time I had written to them about this was in August.

"I am still waiting for confirmation of that letter."

Mr MacLeod said he only found out through Cllr Quinn at short notice that the cabin was being removed.

He told the Tele: "We were told it would be removed between 7am and 11am but it finally left at 3.40pm.

"It had six tonnes of pellets in it and they couldn't lift it.

"They had to wait until a big tanker came up to empty it, there were seven four foot bags filled with pellets.

"We are ecstatic that it's gone at last."

Councillor Quinn says she is delighted that the residents can make full use of the car park once again.

She said: "None of us believed the cabin was going to go until it was actually removed.

"We had been promised they would be removed on a number of occasions.

"They had been sitting there for two years blocking car parking spaces."

Cllr Quinn has already asked for the parking spaces to be re-painted and the bays to be designated for disabled people, a call backed by Mr MacLeod.

He said: "We had some flats lying empty and around 90 per cent of people who have moved in have blue badges."
