A PORT Glasgow pub is shaking up the nine to five by offering a change of scenery to home office workers.

The Waterwheel, in Gallagher Shopping Park, has launched the 'pub desk' - an opportunity for employees working from home to set up their office at the pub.

While no booze is available, home office workers can pay £10 to secure a cosy spot in the pub, use the WiFi, have plug point access, get their lunch and unlimited tea, coffee or soft drinks from 10am until 5pm.

Since launching many office and freelance staff have been making use of the facilities.

General manager, Vikki Russell, 36, said: "It's nice to have people back in the pub.

"It has been strange not being able to sell alcohol.

"This is bringing people back in and giving them the space to work.

"It's a great change of scenery for people who have perhaps been living and working within the same four walls from March.

"Thousands of people read the post on Facebook so I'm hopeful that as we move forward we'll get more bookings."

Those taking advantage of the deal can feast on meals such as a chicken and bacon club or a classic beef burger and are welcome to have refills on fizzy or hot drinks throughout the day.

The scheme was launched as a way to offer respite to those who have been working from home during the pandemic.

Vikki added: "Marston's launched the pub desk in England first as they were opened before us and they had a brilliant response, so we knew we wanted to follow suit.

"It's something a bit different and it just will give people the opportunity to break the repetitive cycle of their home working days."

One customer taking advantage of the offer, a Greenock HR employee, said: "It's just really nice to get out the house for a while.

"I'm going to book and do it again."
