A GREENOCK musician has a smash hit on her hands as her boogie sessions for babies go to the top of the charts.

Kind-hearted Lynette Beaton hit the headlines in the Tele earlier this year as she turned her talents to raising thousands of pounds for those in need during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Together with friends the 30-year-old created a platform for local musicians on social media which attracted audiences - and charity donations for frontline workers - from all over the world.

Now she is back in business with her Boogie Bug classes, bringing the joy of the beat of music to youngsters, and her numbers are soaring.

Lynette, who gave up teaching in secondary school to fulfil her dream of taking music into the community, said: "The numbers have hit the roof.

"I think the sudden popularity is about wellbeing, we are giving people the chance to do something that they have been missing.

"Mums and babies have not been able to go to classes.

"It has been lovely to get people back together with all the social distancing in place."

Lynette has been running her classes for parents and tots for the last four years but now her programme is really taking off.

She said: "It is what I really love doing.

"I am performing and reaching out."

During the peak of the pandemic, her Lockdown Live platform raised over £10,000 for good causes, like delivering tablet devices and mobile phones to the Covid-19 unit at Inverclyde Royal.

The sessions also kept spirits up for those stuck indoors, plus performers who'd lost their livelihoods as venues closed.

Lynette also ran some Boogie Bug classes online, giving parents and babies some respite from the pandemic.

The musician, who plays in her own band The Laurettes with best friend Lauren O'Donoghue, also runs a performance arts academy.

But she is now busy singing and dancing the week away with up to 200 babies and their families.

Lynette has a team of four performers on board helping with classes - Jude Harron, Abbie McKillop, Erin McKenna and her bandmate Lauren.

Recently they celebrated with Halloween-themed events and they are now looking forward to providing Christmas cracker sessions.
