A LIFESAVING defibrillator has been installed at a local church in memory of a much loved and fondly recalled member of the congregation.

Florence McGregor, who was in her nineties, was well known at Skelmorlie and Wemyss Bay Parish having been a worshipper since 1982.

She passed away last year and part of her bequest to the church has been used to buy a defibrillator which will help save lives in future.

It is registered with the emergency services, so that anyone calling 999 can be directed to it.

A plaque erected alongside says: 'In grateful memory of Florence (Flo) McGregor, a member of this church from 1982 to 2019'.

Mrs McGregor, a native of north-east Scotland, was born in Fraserburgh and lived for many years in Wemyss Bay and then Largs.

Florence was married to Bob and spent most of her career in banking, before moving here to retire.

Bob was a keen sailor and hoped to spend a lot of his retirement on the Clyde.

Sadly, shortly after moving to Wemyss Bay, he was diagnosed with cancer and died a short time later.

Florence stayed in Wemyss Bay for many years before moving to Largs.

Florence had joined Skelmorlie & Wemyss Bay Parish when she first came to the area and retained her membership of the church when she moved to Largs.

She remained a committed member as long as her health allowed her to attend.

She bequeathed money to the church and part of this sum has been used to purchase the defib.

William Wright, the church's property convener, told the News: "This life-saving device is an important addition to the church and we hope that the defibrillator will be beneficial not just to the church but to the general public too."
