Christmas is, amongst other things, a time for music, and the following five shots recall the popular Inverclyde Schools' Concerts that have taken place in the past.

School concerts are staged in Greenock Town Hall in winter and summer and always played to a full house, giving our young musicians a chance to shine in front of teachers, parents, and the public.

It has been said by many from out-with our community that Inverclyde schools boast some of the best music departments to be found anywhere in the country.

Here are five of the many shots that appeared in our concert picture spreads in years gone by.

Pic1:

Greenock Town Hall was the perfect venue for young musicians to perform songs from all over the world. The evening of music showed the dedication and hard work of teachers and pupils who made the evening such a success.

Pic2:

Youngsters of the Junior Choir, conducted by Palma Allan, performed near flawless versions of 'Diamond Bright', 'Scarlet Ribbons' and 'When I Sing' in a special Christmas Concert in 2007.

Pic3:

The Concert Band, conducted by David Hutchinson, put in a fantastic performance, with 'Sleigh Ride' and other rousing Christmas tunes that delighted the audience. This shot of performing flautists was part of a picture spread on the night's entertainment

Pic4:

The lighting room situated window on the town hall balcony, made a perfect frame for this shot of the Senior Choir. The pic was taken as strains of 'For Him All Stars Have Shone' waved over a captivated audience.

Pic5:

Music teachers Patricia Strain and Kathryn Baillie conducted string players who stunned the audience with their ability to perform a diverse range of music, including Fiddler on the Roof and hit tune Mamma Mia.
