A LISTED building in Port Glasgow is being reconfigured in response to help a business tenant and library users.

Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL), which runs Gourock and Wemyss Bay harbours, currently occupies the first floor of the A-listed municipal building on Fore Street.

The government-owned company is increasing its team and needs additional space.

Contractors will reconfigure the building - which CMAL shares with Port Glasgow Library - to maximise underused space on the ground floor.

The library will also benefit from enhanced digital facilities and an atrium area for group activities.

CMAL’s team will move into temporary accommodation on Cartsdyke Avenue in Greenock to allow completion of the five-month project and they are expected to return to the Port in May 2021.

Chief executive Kevin Hobbs said: "We considered moving to larger premises but our preferred option is to stay where we are and work with Inverclyde Council to maximise the current accommodation.

"Both CMAL and the library will benefit.

"We will have the capacity we need for our growing team and the library will have a refurbished, fit-for-purpose space."
