THE Covid-19 pandemic didn't stop pint-sized performers at a Port school putting on a cracking Christmas spectacle for their families.

Boys and girls at St John’s Primary and Nursery were determined to ensure festive fun could still take place - albeit virtually.

Youngsters in primary one to three took part in a nativity play where they acted out songs and narrated the story while unable to sing indoors.

The entire performance was then put onto YouTube for everyone to enjoy.

Primary one teacher, Pauline Walker, said: "We wanted to make sure that the kids did not miss out this year..

"We adapted and decided to do things a bit differently.

"They all had so much fun doing it and it's great that as a school we've still been able to get into the Christmas spirit.

"The children loved being part of something and while it is different, the parents are absolutely delighted that they were able to watch their wee ones online."

The older children from primary four to seven also took part in virtual performances, with P7 writing and starring in their own pantomime with an 'I'm A Celebrity...' theme.

Martin Craig, depute head, said: "Normally, we have three days of Christmas shows.

"This year with the restrictions in place we had to think outside the box.

"We decided we still wanted to perform for our families bringing them the story of the first Christmas while spreading some much needed cheer.

"We have recorded all our usual performances and uploaded them online.

"This way the children could still learn about the nativity and fulfil our Christmas tradition of performing to our families.

"The silver lining of this year’s performances is that the children can also watch themselves, which they're all very excited about."
