KILMACOLM Primary children were walking in a winter wonderland as the magic of the festive season was sprinkled around the village.

The hard-working team at the primary school worked within the restrictions, lockdowns and Covid-19 to bring the festivities alive.

Santa and his reindeers visited, a grotto was set up and Duchal Woods was transformed into a festive treat.

Children enjoyed fire-pit parties, a winter wonderland experience and festive films.

But the youngsters spread the joy around as they filmed special Christmas treats for other classes, sent greetings cards to sheltered housing residents and wore Christmas jumpers in aid of Inverclyde Foodbank.

Head teacher Simone McCreadie said: "We had the most brilliant time and hope we have created magical moments and Christmas memories for all the children.

"We started planning in October as we decided to make sure that the children in the school had the best Christmas ever after the year we've all had.

"We knew that parents wouldn't be able to take the children to all the usual events so we decided to bring it all to Kilmacolm Primary instead."

At Halloween the school raffled hampers to raise money for their Christmas countdown.

It started with reindeer visits, silent discos, then every class filmed a special Advent film.

The nursery children enjoyed children's entertainer Gary Dunn, while there were Christmas parties in the rest of the school with The MacDougalls.

Fairies transformed their garden into a magical festive experience and Duchal Woods welcomed the Grinch and Santa Claus.

The kids also enjoyed the Magical Beacon Stone' panto film and there were movies in the school 'cinema' with juice and popcorn.

A total of £400 was raised for the foodbank through a Christmas jumpers day.
