Skelmorlie woman braved the December cold to raise vital funds for a local animal rescue

Emma Galbraith held an outdoor bake sale in the village and also ran a raffle to support the Underheugh Ark Rescue charity based nearby, raising more than £500.

She said she wanted to help out and support the work of a charity during December and decided on Underheugh due to her past experiences with them.

Emma said: “I wanted to do the bake sale to help out during the festive period because I have never done anything for charity like this.

“I always donate but have never held an event to help a charity out and really wanted to do something for a chosen charity.

“I chose the Underheugh Ark Rescue charity which is based nearby because I have rescued chickens from there in the past and loved the work that they do.

“I set up the bake sale outside and I also did a raffle as well because everybody loves them and it went down well.”

Emma says the funds will be vital in helping the charity through the winter, and to buy essential items for the charity’s animals.

She explained: “I could see that they are struggling a lot especially this year and I wanted to help them out as much as I could.

“The funds will go towards the vet bills, all of the accessories the animals need, and items like huts, cages, food and toys.

“The funding will benefit the charity and the animals a lot, so I’m glad that I have raised some money to help.”

Emma has praised villagers for their support of the bake sale and raffle, and says the money raised will go a long way.

She said: “The support from local residents was amazing and I can’t thank everyone who donated and supplied baking enough.

“I was so overwhelmed with the support and it almost didn’t seem real how much backing I got with the fundraising.

“It wasn’t just locals either, I had people donating from outwith the area which made me even happier.

“I wasn’t expecting to make nearly as much as I did but in total I got £520 which will go a long way at the charity.”
